Frequently Asked Questions:
+ Could you tell me a little more about the songwriting special?
The songwriting special is the perfect gift for an anniversary, wedding, or many other occasions. Basically, you give us certain parameters to follow when writing the song. You would pick the theme. You would pick what the song will be about. You would pick the style of music. You will pick the tempo. Then we will record a customized guitar track and write lyrics for the song, based on your specifications. When we’re finished, you will come in and sing the song. Once you’re done recording the vocals, we mix and master the song. Other instruments can be added for an additional cost too. We can even bring in a professional vocalist if you don’t want to sing it. From romantic ballads to pop anthems, we can create for you a personalized gift that lasts a lifetime.
+ If I need you to help me work on pre-existing material, how do I send you my songs to check out?
You can just email us any information pertaining to the songs in question. Any music files can be sent as attachments to the email address listen on this site. If the files are too large for email you can always send us the information through the mail (Do Not Send Original Files.) You could even use a file sending service like www,yousendit.com, which allows you to set up a free account. Just make sure you leave us your contact information when you send us your material, so that we can contact you as soon as we get a chance to look at the materials you have sent us.
+ How much does it cost?
The price varies from song to song. Some songs require more work than others. Also, upon request, groups of songs may be packaged together to save money. The rates for musical composition are usually charged on a song by song basis, based upon how many instruments are necessary, and whether or not sheet music needs to be drafted. You can email us for a quick price quote.
+ If I'm not satisfied with the song you write for me, am I entitled to a refund?
No, but, each song gets three free alterations, meaning that if we charge you “X” to write a song, then you will get to request alterations of the song three times. Most of the time, we will get it right the first time. But, sometimes, it’s difficult to get a song just the way you want it the first time. This way, you get to tweak the song until it is exactly the way you want it.
+ How long does it usually take for you to complete writing a song?
The easiest answer to this question is that it will take between two weeks and two months to complete writing a song. But, we make no guarantees that it will be done in that time frame. Some times it can take a little bit longer. The turnaround time depends on the volume of songs you have sent us and how quickly it takes to write the material, which is highly variable. It also depends upon which draft of the songs you accept. If you approve the first version of the material we send you, then, the process will be truncated significantly.
+ How does the payment process work?
An upfront fee for any songwriting services rendered is due before any services are provided. Typically, you will have to pay half of the estimated cost up front and half when the song is finished.
+ How does the collaborative process work?
Our initial conversation will take place over the phone or in person, so that any questions can be answered immediately. Then, the following meetings will take place in a series of phone and email correspondences.
+ Who owns the copyrights?
You will retain the copyrights on the music, lyrics, and compositions you created on your own. Steel City Audio and its writers retain the copyrights on all original music, lyrics, and compositions created for clients.
